The Creative Design Process

Unlike other forms of art, graphic design is not just about letting the work flow. Graphic designers have to help viewers get the message and help sell a service or product. Creating a design for a client with little or no strategy just doesn’t work. Unlike traditional art, graphic design has to convey a very narrow message. My creative graphic design process will help achieve the best results for your project.

The Design Breif

Information about the clients company compiled from a Q&A session, a design brief saves everyone time. This will help focus attention on the details that best cater to the target audience, and in as timely a manner as possible.

Research and Brainstorming

I spend time reviewing client design breif information, then begin the research and brainstorming stage. I will take into account your competitors, market trends, the history, the future, your current brand, and the one aspired toward.

Back to the drawing board isnt just a saying, I really start on the drawing board. Sketching helps me to generate a strong set of possible directions. Top sketches will eventually be made into the final product, but the point is to explore every possible direction before choosing the most effective idea.

I normally narrow the design focus until we have one or two strong options for digitising and conceptualising. The rendering stage involves transferring the top sketches to Adobe Illustrator, to Photoshop, and finally to Acrobat (for the presentation).

The design presentation is supplied as a PDF file, with each concept shown in context, using digital mock-ups. Now it’s over to the client to consider the designs and prepare feedback based upon how the ideas fulfil the design brief.

Finishing Touches

Following client review, I’ll either finalise the project, or make any revisions agreed upon. My main aim is to create a visual identity that works for the respective business, and for many years to come. There’s always flexibility in my process.

Supply Art Files

Artwork is supplied via email and/or made available for download. Where the brandmark (logo) is concerned, files can be scaled to any size without loss of quality as they will be Vector.

Customer Service

I offer my clients advice should any design-related questions crop-up, I will be happy to answer them, or to offer an opinion on how the new design has been applied.
